If you’re from anywhere else in the country, you might be wondering why some Americans love the Southwest. What could possibly be drawing people to a culture of winter golf rounds, endless sunshine and incredible cuisine?
Anyone who lives in the Southwest knows that once you become ingrained in the culture, you’ll never want to leave. Some believe the trick is finding the right place to settle down. Depending on your preferences, there are plenty of options throughout the southwest region, but we’re here to go over what makes one place in particular all the more special.
Scottsdale, Arizona is a haven for families, nature lovers, ambitious young professionals and retirees. There is truly something for everyone in this up and coming town, with so much to offer yet room for an exciting amount of growth and possibility.
If you’re thinking about moving, there’s no doubt you have a lot on your mind and a lot on your plate. But rest assured, while making a move anywhere is nerveracking, there’s nothing you’ll regret about moving to Scottsdale. These are the factors that make this move a smart one for you.
1. Golf and Dining
Many people know Scottsdale’s name for one reason: golf. Hundreds of thousands of people travel to Scottsdale every year for the Waste Management Phoenix Open golf tournament. In fact, it is the most-attended tournament in the world with an annual attendance of 500,000 people.
As one could imagine, Scottsdale is well-known for its sports culture, which primarily revolves around golf. There are dozens of golf clubs in the area, all of which offer a unique and memorable experience. There’s no better way to relax in Scottsdale than with an afternoon golf match to later be topped off with dinner at the club with a view. Some of the best cuisine around town is located within the clubs or just a short drive away.
2. Hiking Trails Near Scottsdale Preserve
People often think that living in a city means giving up your love for nature. Fortunately, Scottsdale is near some of Arizona’s best outdoor activities, making it easy to drive just beyond the skyline to surround yourself in the great outdoors.
The Scottsdale McDowell Sonoran Preserve is a large piece desert habitat that provides visitors with access to several multi-use trails across 30,200 acres, making it the biggest urban preserve across the country. Here you’ll find unique flora and animal species spread across the land. There are 10 trailheads leading into 200 miles of hike-able paths. Entry to the preserve is free of charge, so as a resident of Scottsdale you can visit as often as you’d like.
3. New Developments
Scottsdale is a city with a high growth rate and any fast growing city needs to accommodate its new residents with a variety of new housing developments. Sky Crossing, Talon Ranch, Whitehorse by Camelot are just a few of the new developments popping up around town offering enough amenities to keep the entire family happy such as outdoor swimming pools, fitness centers, basketball courts and playgrounds. While some developments are close to the city, others may require a bit longer of a commute. Luckily there are a ton of options in this up and coming city.
4. The Job Market
In 2017, Scottsdale received the title of the second best place in American to find a job compared to 180 cities across the country. The rating was based on 26 key indicators such as job opportunities, employment growth, starting salary and unemployment. The area has become a hub for startup companies that drive this growth, particularly in the technology field. The area’s affordability makes it easy for these companies to get off the ground and attract talent.
5. Affordability
Many of these new startup companies are having great luck because of Scottsdale’s affordability. It’s not far from the big California cities that attract some of America’s best and brightest, but the prices are unmatched. Many retirees have made it their home for that and many other reasons (safety, cleanliness, etc.). It’s easy to live close to town without breaking the bank, which is a benefit you can’t find just anywhere.
6. Family-Friendly
Once you’re settled in your new housing development with your new job, you can feel comfortable starting a family in Scottsdale, or moving the family you have already started elsewhere. Scottsdale is notorious for being a family-friendly place proven by their outstanding educational rankings from elementary school all the way through community college. There are also a ton of pastimes in the area for families to enjoy together including museums, recreational activities, sports and much more.
